Early signs are that the airfreight industry in South Africa and globally will experience a forcible peak season in late 2024 which is already in full swing. As a result, we are already experiencing space constraints, backlogs, and an increase in rates as well as upselling at the time of booking some larger shipments in order to secure space.
This over and above perishable cargo shipments which general cargo must compete with as well as some exporters aiming to move certain sea freight shipments by air, in order to reach destinations sooner due to the issues we all know are affecting ocean freight worldwide.
In addition to the above, as we head into summer, the high temperatures may at times effect the airlines’ uplift capacity. This causes a knock-on effect weighing heavily on the airlines’ ability to recover backlogs.
With the above said, please note that it is imperative that you plan and book exports as far in advance as possible. We will do our utmost to ensure your cargo is lodged on time and meets the booked flight and as always, after successful lodgement and departure, our dedicated team will constantly monitor and follow up on the status of shipments.
Please be assured that we will do our best to meet your expectations over this period where space on most airlines is likely to remain constrained.
